End of summer club BBQ
A fun afternoon was had by all at the VBCC summer BBQ. 129 People enjoyed the sunshine, food and drink. The kids were entertained by the British Cycling coaches, who setup a mini course around the field. The coaches got them practicing racing starts and gear work for shorter and longer racing. They also gave them tips and got them trying out cornering at speed. The British cycling coaches were very impressed with the enthusiasm of the clubs members and children and are looking forward to working with us in the future. The Bouncy Castle was also a big hit and some children also took part in a colouring competition, won by Bethan Ablitt. We had our first VBCC Bake Off, the 2016 winner was Sam Crowder, with Edie Allatt being the best VBCC Children’s Baker. The committee enjoyed working with the Football Club to put on this event, and feel supporting another local sports club is the way forward, so look out for more events at this venue!
Welcome to the end of 2016 season newsletter. The season ends, but we don’t stop cycling (rule #5). The official club rides will change to Sundays at 9am, but please keep posting your own rides as much as possible. The biggest benefit to any cycling club is having like minded people to join you on a ride.
This season has seen the VBCC achieve the goal of growing the club. Membership is up by nearly 20% on the previous year. This is down mostly to the members welcoming and encouraging new people to join and making them feel welcome. Also we have the Breeze rides going out regularly, and we are delighted people have joined the club afterwards.
A big thank you from the committee to you all for this.
VBCC Racing 2016 season
The 2016 season has seen a step change for VBCC competitive cycling. Last year there was a handful of us involved, this year it’s something the club on the whole has embraced. Although cycling has gone from strength to strength and we have seen cycling clubs pop up everywhere, VBCC are one of only 3 Nottinghamshire clubs who have put on races. This is something that sets us apart from other clubs and is something we should all be very proud of.
We have hosted 3 hugely successful races on our Thoroton Circuit. They simply would not be possible without the club members volunteering to help, so thank you to everybody who have given up their time. The races generated funds, which will be put towards the VBCC youth program, and getting members qualified as British Cycling coaches.
Closed circuits Racing: we have had outings at Mallory Park for VBCC, however the biggest development in 2016 was the opening of the Harvey Hadden circuit.

Womens cycling in the club has gone from strength to strength this season. During term time we had a regular Friday ladies ride which had been well supported and given a number of ladies the confidence to come out on their bikes and join the club. These ladies soon became members and quickly starting posting their own rides and encouraging more friends to join. So many Ladies have achieved goals this year, many their first century. For Liz a 582 mile ride across France, and for Debra 100 miles in sub 5 hours and cycling up mountains. We have many ladies who also swim and run too and have completed their first Trialthon type Sportives, including Jenny who did a half Iron Man this summer!
It doesn’t matter what level or how big or small, every goal achieved is priceless. Well done ladies and keep telling friends and family, lets continue to make this club different and welcome every level of women cyclists.Type your paragraph here.
